Sanctification

Sanctification is a beautiful and multifaceted aspect of our journey with Christ. It's where the profound truths of the Gospel come to life in our daily walk with God. To fully grasp its meaning, we need to understand two key aspects: our positional sanctification in Christ and the practical sanctification that unfolds in our lives.

First, let’s talk about our positional sanctification. The moment we put our faith in Christ, something extraordinary happens. We are set apart and declared holy, not because of what we've done, but because of what Christ has done for us (Hebrews 10:10). This sanctification is our new status before God, a position of holiness given to us as a gift of grace (1 Corinthians 1:30). It’s like being granted citizenship in a new kingdom; we are now citizens of Heaven, sanctified and made holy through Christ’s sacrifice (Ephesians 2:19).

But sanctification is not just a static position; it’s also a dynamic and ongoing process. This is where practical sanctification comes in. As we journey through life with Christ, we find ourselves being transformed day by day (2 Corinthians 3:18). It's like a skilled sculptor chiseling away at a block of marble, each day shaping us to more closely resemble the image of Christ. This transformation is gradual and involves our active participation, yet it’s not about striving through our own efforts. It’s about walking in the grace that God freely gives (Galatians 5:16), allowing the Holy Spirit to work within us and mold our character, thoughts, and actions to reflect Christ more and more (Romans 8:29).

Both aspects of sanctification – our position in Christ and our practical growth – are entirely grounded in grace. They are not rewards for our good deeds or the result of our own striving. Instead, they are the outworking of our faith in Christ’s death and resurrection (Ephesians 2:8-9). As we trust in Him, we’re not only declared holy but are also being made holy, day by day (Philippians 1:6). It’s a journey filled with grace at every step, reminding us that in every moment of our transformation, we are deeply reliant on Christ’s life-changing power (John 15:5).
